The office needs help getting referrals to specialists. They don't have any sense of urgency getting the referrals out which causes rescheduling with specialists. As a patient this is bad.
Get the referrals sent to the specialists in a timely manner so as a patient we don't have to keep following up to see that it is done. Rescheduling specialist appointments is not an acceptable thing for patients.
User's recommendation: If this cannot be resolved by Optum look for another Doctor.
Their customer service is terrible
Long wait time
Unhelp representative which could not provide a solution
Representative had a terrible disinterested attitude
Instructions on website are terrible, and denial reasoning could not be articulated well by representative.
User's recommendation: At beginning of call, definitely accept survey option for end of call so if the call is unproductive and service is not good, you can voice your option.

Verified ReviewerResolved: Optum's Billing For Cancelled Appointments
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. I also made a complaint to the BBB and on Google.
My daughter cancelled an appointment at the Optum medical office in Lake Success, NY, more than 24 hours in advance, and Optum Medical Care still charged her a $25 cancellation fee. The billing representative I spoke with was unable to clear the fee and stated that her supervisor must first verify that the appointment was cancelled. We have text messages to prove the appointment was cancelled.
User's recommendation: Go to a non - Corporate owned medical office

In addition to routine pre surgical testing, my surgeon ordered that I also be screened beforehand by a cardiologist. I could not get an appointment with an OPTUM cardiologist at Lake Success.
I was told that there was only one cardiologist and the next open appointment would be in four months. My surgery was scheduled in two weeks!
My internist is terrific, but the staff now working in his office since he joined OPTUM, is a nightmare. No one seems to be well trained. They dont acknowledge or greet you or seem happy to help you when you arrive.
If you ask them a question, they will tell you that they are a temp and you should ask someone else!
The nurses who take your statistics before the doctor comes in, are not proficient with what they are tasked to do. In reviewing my medications, I had one who insisted that one of my scripts was now available over-the-counter.
She argued with me and would not stand corrected. By the time my doctor came in to see me, my blood pressure had gone up 20 points!
Lastly, they dont return your calls, and if by chance they do, you can not understand the message that they leave on your answering machine.
I will continue to see my internist for as long as I can deal with it, but for everything else, I definitely will go somewhere else!

Denied life saving meds and procedures. Denied bipolar meds. I'll probably have to go to a state mental facility.....oh wait...they won't cover that. On my headstone please put optum killed this woman
Refused to cover any migraine meds or treatment, leading to chronic pain and major depression. Called a crisis line 3 times last week, bc I was almost suicidal.
I despise this company they don't give a s.

This is an awful service if Optum. Pro health was never like this.
I made an appointment on line since tired after 15 minutes waiting for someone to answer. Although time appt removed did not go thru to Drs office. Again on line which WAS NOT THE DOCTORS OFFICE. So again confirmed appt did not upload.
She did make the appt.
In plain English your system sucks. I have been with the original Dr since the 70s.

Verified ReviewerOptum by AARP. Total failure.
AARP, United Health Care and Optimum are all situated under the same umbrella. It keeps raining and there is no improvement in sight. If you can do without these partners, you will better off.
During a recent Walgreens pharmacy visit, I was charged $42 for my Rx, whereas my Optum coupon code gave a $24 price quote—nearly double the Optum amount. When calling the Optum customer service to verify the reason for this huge price difference, I was brushed off by the agent with the phrase, 'Price differences do occur, and furthermore, the prices we publish on the website are always estimates.' What a waste of time.
Other discount programs are much better and are more accurate.
Thank you, AARP, for another useless product.
User's recommendation: Do not loose your time verifying their drug prices. Optum price listings are totally irrelevant.
Horrible...worst billing company I have ever dealt with
I am writing because I have been dealing with Optum for over 2 months now. My son went to the Dr.
and didn't list our insurance so we got the bill. I have been calling for the past 2 months now. This company does not do their job and they have no clue what they are talking about. I got a bill and called right away and gave the insurance information to them (this was on 2-20-25).
Then got another bill so I called again (3-12-25) and they said they never got the information even though they did (on 2-20-25). The Next bill I got I called again (4-3-25) they said they could see it was escalated in the system on 3-17-25 and that someone would call me in 7-10 business days). I got another bill, so I called again today (4-21-25) and the first representative said that it never was billed and that she would send it in to be billed. I asked why it was never billed, and she didn't know.
So I asked for a supervisor. After speaking to him, he said that it was billed and that the insurance denied it. So I did a 3 way call with him, me and the person from the medical department that handles our insurance. They verified it actually was paid on 3-25-25 but shocker, Optum had no record of it.
I was able to get the EOB and also Optum was emailed the EOB but the supervisor said it would take 7-10 business days but because of the situation he would escalate it and it would take a week to verify the email. What?! Who takes a week to verify an email. I have spent hours of my time with this company, each time providing any information they needed and getting the run around.
I am disgusted with how they do business and told the supervisor that as well.
I also called the Dr.'s office and told them but I doubt anything will be done. I am so disappointed I have had to waste hours of my time on something that should have been 1 phone call.
User's recommendation: My recommendation is to stay clear of any Dr's office that uses this billing company. They are horrible and all they will do is waste your time.

Verified ReviewerPoor customer service.
Optum refused to fill a prescription from my physician stating it needed prior approval. I have been taking this med for several years and didn't have any problems with Wellcare. I will be dropping this coverage in the fall when open enrollment starts.

Verified Reviewer |Optum is a terrible health facility
DonIf i could give less than 1 star I would. I was treated for cancer about 2 years ago.
I had to go through chemotherapy. I saw one of the oncologists at 30 Columbia street in Poughkeepsie who was probably one of the worst doctors Ive ever encountered. When I went there was one room with a sort of circle filled with patients (12 all at once I believe) receiving chemotherapy. Not once did the nurse bring me to a separate room to access my port.
Not once was a privacy curtain drawn while accessing it. Not once did she even ask. Im pretty sure accessing a port is considered a medical procedure and that my rights and privacy were violated by both the nurse and the doctor. I now suffer from PTSD partially from the cancer obviously.
Mostly from my care or lack there of at optum. Having to sit in a big room with other patients while everyone gets to see my port accessed and hear my medical information and questions i had for the nurse. The doctor was basically useless. When I asked a question he proceeded to print me information from web MD.
Yeah he really seemed to knows his stuff. I now see they have revamped the oncology unit at Columbia street. Its just disturbing how long it took them to catch up on their antiquated oncology unit to provide adequate patient care. The experience was so awful.
I switched to an amazing oncologist at nuvance. She respects my privacy, her nurses are amazing and most of all shes honest which is more than I can say about the doctor at optum.
I am currently looking for a new primary and specialist in the area because every time that place has switched names the care gets worse. They constantly over book and if you try to get ahold of them on the phone youre on a 20 minute hold listening to the same smooth jazz song on loop.

Verified ReviewerMissing Payments, One after Another
Optum Bank's app contains some fly-by-night secrets: When using the app to pay service provider from one's HSA account, there's a 50-50 chance that your payment is shown as "processed" (strangely, there's never a "paid" status), money is taken out of your account, but the payee never sees the money. In my experience, this has happened not just to 1 or 2 service providers, but quite a few different ones already.
I've had to get paper checks printed and use snail mail, which seem to have worked --- so far.
I've spent last hour or two searching for Optum's auditing or compliance department phone number.
Apparently they do a good job even keeping their corporate office phone number a secret. I guess you can forget about the auditing dept.
- Claim to process your payments
- And would go after you
- Your payees might not to get the money

Verified ReviewerLack of quality care and surgical proceedure by untrained staff
Today I had an outpatient procedure in a surgical room of Optum medical in Fishkill NY. I lay bare bottom in the air for my procedure puzzled, concerned and could get no further explanation as to why I.T, technicians were present in the procedure room struggling to make the system work.
It was bad that we were two hours late due to system problems and my records vaporizing from the system as I moved from check in to the procedure room, but it became truly alarming when the anesthesiologist could not operate the new system to draw anesthesia. It was obvious that this system was not ready for prime. Clearly staff was absolutely not adequately trained. It was complete chaos.
There was not one person there who could operate the system without I.T. aid. Based on my experience we need to wonder about our care. Do we no longer deserve trained professionals and the right to retain our dignity by having only medical professionals present?
Is this rush to go live with insufficient training a mere shadow of what is ahead? Does this not place our safety at risk?
Is this another example of corporate greed and cutting corners where quality care with dignity has been exchanged to increase the bottom line? Health insurance conglomerates like United Health Care who own and operate Optum should not be allowed to own and operate care giving facilities where they exchange our safety and dignity by cutting corners for increased profits
User's recommendation: Avoid Optum offcies. Thier guiding prociples and operations are driven by the Parent company United Health Care who ar greedy for profit insurance company. Non medical practitioners holding your healkth care in thier hands for profit. Youd get bvetter care consideration at your local veterinarians offcie!
I need to ask a question about my provider receiving an email asking for my records. NOBODY seem to be able to help me I've been given 4 phone numbers now and nobody is of any help.
Zero
As I stated I'm on my fourth phone call trying to find out why one of my providers if not both are being asked for my records going back to 2024. Nobody capitalized is able to help me I'm frustrated beyond description and your customer service is absolutely horrendous. I need someone to call me as soon as possible and help me with this issue I have disability issues with understanding and such and I need help from someone please!

Not once but twice have i been told not advocate for myself or call on my behalf ! I would like her to never contact me again. How disrespectful can you be to a person who gets multiple treatments!!
User's recommendation: Only let her speak to drop if need be.

They bought the doctors' office that I have been going to for decades, moved it (recently), and are now shutting it down. Why even do any of this?
Now, nearing 60, I have to find a new doctor. Just ******* great.
